>>>>>>>>>>>>> 5C SKI TEAM <<<<<<<<<<<<<

The Claremont Colleges Ski and Snowboard Team is a co-ed snowsports team that competes in alpine racing, freestyle, and nordic. Our focus is on creating a fun, and friendly crew of people where we can get stoked on the mountains together, and participate in a little friendly competition. Students of all backgrounds and all abilities are welcome and encouraged to join. You can take the competition aspect seriously or as casually as you’d like. We have folks of all abilities who shred hard.

We compete in the USCSA league against schools such as UCLA, USC, NAU, and more. Competitions are held at Mammoth, Tahoe, Arizona Snowbowl, and some years Nationals takes us all the way to the east coast! We have competitors that have raced for national development teams, and others who are strong skiers but have never competed before.

Team dues are $350 for the 2022-23 season and cover league dues, training fees, and housing. If dues pose a financial barrier to your participation, please reach out to our captains–we’re committed to finding ways to support every dedicated skier who wants to join our team.

Calendar:

The competition calendar has not been set yet. Tentatively we will be competing most weekends between the first weekend before school starts after winter break through mid February. National Championships are in Mammoth CA, this year!
   Tentative Calendar:
 January 21-22: Comp 1 – Arizona Snowbowl
 January 28-29: Comp 2 – Mt High/Big Bear
 February 4-5: Comp 3 – Sierra Summit
          February 11-12: Comp 4 – Mt High/Big Bear
February 18-19: USCSA Far West Regionals – Mammoth Mountain
March 5-11: USCSA Nationals – Mammoth

Training:

  • We will start with team socials and optional dry-land training (workouts, team games, etc…) either next week or the week after.
  • We will start on the snow training at Mt High beginning when conditions permit. This is usually during the first week back from winter break.
  • On snow practices will be scheduled twice a week. It will be some combination of Monday morning/Wednesday evening or Tuesday morning/Wednesday evening training. We will solidify this when mountain high releases their hours of operation for the season.

Passes:

  • Ikon pass:
    • Some of our comps will be at Mammoth, which is on the Ikon. Big bear/snow summit is also on the Ikon. If you plan on skiing at all with family or friends during winter break the Ikon makes a lot of sense to buy.
  • Mt High: Mt High gives us discounted season passes, we are still negotiating with them on prices for this year but it will be in the $200-$300 range for a season pass.
  • Day tickets at Non Ikon resorts: When we travel to non Ikon mountains for competitions the mountains usually hook us up with $35-$50 day tickets for competitors. This is not currently covered by the team (funding dependent).

Team dues:

  • $350, this covers all the league dues, training fees, and housing for the duration of the competition ski season. Things that are not covered at the moment are gas, food, equipment, and passes. As we access more funding from the colleges, hopefully, more of these things become funded. If you can not join the team because of the financial burden, please come talk to us. We have the ability to financially support students that are dedicated and committed.

CAPTAINS

ZOE HANCOCK SC ’22 (she/her)

“I joined the ski/snowboard team last year and it quickly became one of the most important parts of my college experience. Out of all the training days, road trips to races, and going to nationals, the best part was getting to know everyone on the team. I am thrilled to be coaching this season and to continue bringing Claremont to the mountains. A big welcome to a new season of racers, and I’ll see you out on the slopes!”

KIRILL MYAGKOV PO ’23 (he/him)

“I’ve grown up on skis and met many lifelong friends while doing it–winter sports are something I simply can’t live without. I founded the Ski/Snowboard team several years ago with the goal of gathering an awesome crew of people who share both a passion for the mountains and the desire to spend as much time up there as possible (while also participating in some friendly competition!). That is exactly who the team has attracted, and why I’ve loved every moment since its inception. The road trips, early morning drives, social events, weeknight practices,  and rowdy cabin adventures with a terrific crew is all I ever could’ve asked for and more.”

JOHN PEABODY PO ’25 (he/him)

“The ski team for me started as a way to get out on the slopes every weekend. It quickly turned into an amazing community of new friends who shared my love for the outdoors. We do day trips to never miss a powder day, whack gates and spin off jumps on weekdays, and travel on the weekends to mountains all over the west. Really excited to start ripping with all the new members of the team this year!”
