ABOUT US

5C Ski and Snowboard Club is a campus org run by-and-for the love of mountains, shredding fresh snow, and welcoming newcomers to snowsports.

OUR MISSION STATEMENT

The purpose of 5C Ski and Snowboard Club is to foster an inclusive and diverse community centered around winter sports. We want to make skiing and snowboarding accessible to all by creating community and alleviating financial barriers to access. We operate with the importance of environmental conservation on our conscience in the spirit of preserving the sport we love for generations to come.

We achieve this goal by hosting subsidized trips to the mountains, many with hundreds of attendees (over 225 5C student attending Reading Daze in 2021!). We coordinate with California mountain resorts who help us create affordable avenues towards passes, help organize rideshares on our club Groupme, and collaborate with other clubs and student-led organizations interested in joining the ski community.

HISTORY

There’s always been a community excited about skiing and snowboarding at the Claremont Colleges. While many don’t associate SoCal with snow sports, our campuses are actually very well located near a variety of mountains. Since the early 2000’s, there have been communities of skiers going up together to the mountains, but no major organization facilitating ski trips en masse.

Since 2018, 5C Ski Club has evolved into an organization focused on bringing together people in the winter sports community, and more importantly, welcoming newcomers into this community that has historically been gate kept by financial and social boundaries.

Founded in 2019, the club began its three main initiatives: recreational skiing, education and the competition team, all of which are open to all skill levels.
