Lodging

  • Travelodge by Wyndham Mammoth Lakes.  A room during ski season typically costs $90. Within walking distance from the Village Gondola and the Mammoth Lakes “downtown” area.
  • Holiday Haus Motel & Hostel. This property is within walking distance of the Village Gondola and the Mammoth Lakes “downtown” area.  It has both hostel and motel-style accommodations.  The hostel typically costs $42 per person for a night during ski season.
  • Convict Lake Resort.  This is the resort that the Ski Club rents out for Reading Days and Syllabus days.  During ski season, a small cabin (1 queen bed) costs $269 per night.
    • Pros: Easy to squeeze extra people into a cabin.  Full kitchen with utensils and cookware (cooking meals can dramatically reduce the cost of a weekend of skiing). An individual cabin is more forgiving than a motel room or hostel in regards to making noise… if you want to play music and party after a day of skiing, this is your place.
    • Cons: A four night minimum is required.  20 minute drive from Convict Lake to Mammoth Mountain. More expensive than alternatives.

Food

Food at ski resorts is expensive, and Mammoth Mountain is no exception.  While some people choose to pack in their own food to eat on the mountain, there is nothing like a hot mid-day meal while skiing.  There are food courts in all of the main lodges, a mid-mountain food court at McCoy Station, BBQ at The Mill, grilled cheeses on the backside of the mountain at The Outpost, and bars at all of the above locations.  Don’t stress about where to eat… ask for a $20 sub-par chili bowl and you shall receive.
